Kempegowda Institute of Medical Science (KIMS) is a private university run by the Vokkaligara Sangha, with Shri M. K. Shankaralingay Gowda as the administrator and Dr. VT Venkatesha as the dean and principal. It was founded in 1980.

Approval and affiliation

Kempegowda Institute of Medical Science is approved by the Government of Karnataka, recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI), affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and Bangalore University, and recognized by the General Medical Council (UK), World Health Organization, and Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists (London).

Admission Criteria:

For candidates seeking admission to the MBBS Program at Kempegowda Institute of Medical Science (KIMS), the requirements are:

• Passed the 12th grade (or equivalent) with 50% aggregate grades in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English at a recognized university.

• The candidate's age should be 17 years as of December 31st of the admission year.

• Students must pass the NEET-UG test. M.S. Ramaiah Medical College

For students seeking admission to the MD/MS Program at Kempegowda Institute of Medical Science (KIMS), the requirements are

• MBBS degree with 50% aggregate from an MCI-recognized university. • Mandatory one-year internship in an MCI-recognized medical college or hospital.

• It is obligatory for students to pass the NEET PG test.

As the college is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science (RGUHS), the admission procedure is performed through the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). 

Counselling:

Students who wish to apply for merit seats under the government (Karnataka domicile holder), private, NRI, or other quota seats can do so through KEA counseling provided by the Karnataka Examinations Authority. To enroll in the MBBS and MD/MS programs at their preferred universities, students must first go through the counseling process.

Students seeking 15% All India Quota seats can apply for MCC counseling through the Medical Counselling Committee. To enroll in the MBBS and MD/MS programs at their selected colleges, students must go through MCC processes.

MBBS:-

A student must pass the NEET UG test and enroll in KEA once the applications are open. A student must complete all of the stages in the KEA counseling process to obtain seats based on their NEET UG ranking in the desired quota (if qualified).

The process involved in KEA counseling is: 1st round counseling, 2nd round counseling, mop-up round (1 or 2), depending on the vacant seats. This process includes:

• Online registration and document verification.

• Choice Entry

• Mock Allotment

• Actual Allocation

Admission is available to all UG NEET-qualified applicants, except NRIs, PIOs, OCIs, and foreign nationals. Documents are required for the verification process. The initialpapers to be produced are:

The final printout of the online registration form.

• The original copy of the Challan for paying the fees.

• UG NEET Admission Ticket and Score Card

• Valid Identity Card (Driving License, Voter ID, Passport, PAN/Aadhar Card)

• SSLC/10th Standard Markscard

• 2nd PUC/12th Standard Marks Card

• The relevant college issued the 2nd PUC/12th Standard Study Certificate with the principal's seal and signature.

• Two recent passport-sized photographs.

If the individual is applying for minority status, the necessary documentation should be provided.

MD/MS:-

Once the applications are open, a student must pass the NEET PG test and enroll in KEA. A student must complete all of the phases in the KEA counseling process to obtain seats based on their NEET PG ranking in the desired quota (if eligible).

Documents Required for the Document Verification Process:

Admission is accessible to all PG NEET-qualified students, excluding NRIs, PIOs, OCIs, and foreign nationals. The initial papers to be produced are:

• The final print of the KEA 'PGET-2020' Registration Form.

• Photo identification and address proof document (PAN Card, Driver's License, Voter ID, Passport, Aadhaar Card, Ration Card)

• The NBE has published the NEET PG 2020 admit card and scorecard for medical and dental courses.

• SSLC/10th Standard Marks Card/equivalent Marks Card (with date of birth).

• Second PUC/12th Standard Marks Card.

• Universities provide MBBS/BDS mark cards for all semesters and years.

• A qualifying degree certificate.

• Only MBBS/BDS graduates from 2019 are eligible for the Provisional Degree Certificate.

• Certificate of Internship Completion (Annexure 5) for candidates who have previously completed their internships. (Provisional internship completion certificates will be considered for candidates who complete their internship before March 31, 2020, but only for the first round of counseling; see Annexure 6).

• A certificate from the institute's head stating that MCI/DCI recognizes the Medical/Dental College from which the candidate passed the MBBS/BDS examination.

• State/Central Medical/Dental Council Registration Certificate. Provisional registration certificates will only be considered for applicants who completed their MBBS/BDS in 2019. A permanent State/Central Medical/Dental Council Registration Certificate must be supplied during the admissions process.

Placement

Kempegowda Institute of Medical Science's (KIMS) Placement Department provides internship and placement opportunities for graduating students. Multiple internship and training options are available at the college's affiliated hospital, KIMS Hospital.

Clinical training facilities are available in affiliated hospitals, and undergraduate and postgraduate students are assigned to train. The Department of Community Medicine offers health training centers for interns in both urban and rural areas.
