Established in 1785, the University of Georgia (UGA) is a prestigious public university situated in the energetic college town of Athens. Its expansive campus covers 767 acres. With 30,714 undergraduate students enrolled overall as of fall 2022, UGA follows a semester-based academic calendar. In terms of national universities, it comes in at number 47 in the Best Colleges 2024 edition.
Complementing its history as the nation's first public, state-supported university is UGA's vibrant student body. Approximately 25% of the student body is involved in the more than 700 student clubs on campus, which include 60 Greek chapters. Among the noteworthy programmes is UGA Miracle, a significant fund-raiser for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
Graduate programmes at UGA are excellent, especially those in education and law. It is well known for its research and for providing special programmes such as the first-ever Eugene P. Odum School of Ecology. Prominent alums include chef Alton Brown, CEO of AFLAC Dan Amos, and U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson.
